April Newsletter
Hello!
I hope everyone had a wonderful April- we sure did. This month we had our big trip of the year; Two weeks in France and Spain! We had a wonderful, packed, adventure. I want to share as many details and fun photos as I can, so I'm sending THREE emails (whew!) I can't fit nearly everything in, but I'll try. I hope you enjoy these little snapshots from our travels as much as we enjoyed the travelling! (Okay, probably not as much)

We started our journey in Provence, a lovely area of Southern France, near the Spanish border. We rented a little apartment for a week in the small town of St. Remy, walking distance from many different bakeries. The one in the photo below was our favorite. Every morning we'd take a little walk while the town was still sleepy and pick up our pastries/ baguettes for the day.
Painters gush about the quality of the light in Provence (Van Gogh, notably), but you really don't know what they're talking about until you see the beauty for yourself. This picture was taken in the cloister of Abbey de Fontfroide (Abbey of cold fountain), and isn't edited at all; the lighting really is that good. These ceilings are gothic arches, and you can tell because they meet in the middle, forming a cross. Roman arches will usually not connect and just be rounded, parallel to one another.
A fun experience we enjoyed in St. Remy was market day! We met up with a local, who first moved there from the U.S. over twenty years ago. She first showed our group her favorite stores, and how to pick out fresh fruits and veggies, and then went on to give a cooking class. We made delicious sea bass with roasted eggplant (actually delicious- you spread it on toasted baguette) and fresh strawberry lemon pudding for dessert. I loved the bustle of the market, and Miriam was obviously shocked at the amount of olives, while Hannah found out she adored the tasty gems of Europe.
Here ends the first email!
